The MATHEMATICA ® Book, Version 4 I love Mathematica and I have been using it since the days of SMP, before Wolfram created the the company Wollfram. With Over A Million Users Around The World, The Mathematica Software System Created By Stephen Wolfram Has Defined The Direction Of Technical Computing For The Past Decade The Enhanced Text And Hypertext Processing And State Of The Art Numerical Computation Features Will Ensure That Mathematica 4, Takes Scientific Computing Into The Next Century. The Mathematica Book Continues To Be The Definitive Reference Guide To This Revolutionary Software Package And Is Released In This New Edition To Coincide With The Release Of The New Version Of Mathematica. The Mathematica Book Is A Must Have Purchase For Anyone Who Wants To Understand The Opportunities In Science, Technology, Business, And Education Made Possible By Mathematica 4 This Encompasses A Broad Audience Of Scientists And Mathematicians Engineers Computer Professionals Financial Analysts Medical Researchers And Students At High School, College, And Graduate Levels Written By The Creator Of The System, The Mathematica Book Includes Both A Tutorial Introduction And Complete Reference Information, And Contains Comprehensive Description Of How To Take Advantage Of Mathematica S Ability To Solve Myriad Technical Computing Problems And Its Powerful Graphical And Typesetting Capabilities. This is Great But little bit old I think the author Stephen Wolfram should write a NEW EDDITION Paper quality and quality of the cover is marvelous Somewhat out dated by newer books Stephen Wolfram continues to do a great job.ad this work shows it. Mathematica isn t the kind of program you can intuitively use to any great effect There s no graphical interface, just a very imposing blank page Some experimentation with simple commands will tell you how infuriatingly pedantic the input protocols are type sin pi and you will be harranged for not typing Sin pi Having said that, it IS the largest, most powerful and most versatile program of its kind, so any serious researcher should have it in their repetoire. This huge book is really a vast lexicon of worked examples on Mathematica s myriad functions Starting from probably THE most basic foundation and I kid you not, the first example is 2 2 4 , the book builds up to some really complicated and esoteric stuff The finicky input structures are all addressed, so no need to worry If a beginner, one can plod through the exercises in sequence and learn mountains of tricks, or a fluent user could just occasionally reference some abstruse function from time to time This dual format is what really makes this book great.I first borrowed this book from my university library, having been introduced to Mathematica during my course, and it could hold a car up while the spare wheel is changed, such is the magnitude of the program This book is indispensible, as it is simply not possible to figure Mathematica out properly within a human lifespan. I have been a Mathematica user for many years, back when you could get it for just the MAC, and a big fan of Steven Wolfram. If you are like me, you re just a bit curious to see what the 4,832th digit for Pi is, using N Pi,4832 Or what a Contour graph looks like, right Well, this book will definately show you how to do it This latest hardcover book, which includes reference for version 4.1 of Mathematica, is a add on of the same only smaller book on version 3.0 of Mathematica There are much examples specific to version 4.x and also the book is a few hundred pages than the v3 book If you have the v3.0 book and dont use the v4.x software, there really is no need to get this book, unless you re really curious about what v4.x offers and like to lug around a 6 pound book The graphics are very vivid, sharp and basically the same ones in v3.0 Due to some of the new graphing features in v4.x, there are samples of these as well Overall, a great software reference to one of the best software packages ever made
