Perfect Of the handfull of books on garageband for ios iPad, iPhone, iPod via I chose this one I am so happy with the purchase After glancing through the book I already found how to do a few things I was not able to figure out on my own One was playing higher and or lower notes than the ones included entering on a given instrument. This book has the information you want with out the filler I can t wait to get back to creating some awesome tunes with the help of this book. This really is a bare bones instruction manual Maybe too much so I can see it being a bit confusing to someone who has never used the Garageband application The first chapter talks about the control bar and all the controls on it However, it doesn t show a picture of it Just an explanation Granted most people will be able to figure out where it is, but I thought it was a little incomplete to leave that out There are pictures in the book, but they are in black and white and would be much easier to see if they were in color There are also a few pictures that don t line up with the description For example on page 18 there is a picture of a guitar tuner, with the caption Effects Allows you to apply popular guitar effects and on page 19 it has a picture of stompboxes with the caption To change settings on the guitar amp controls this is NOT the same thing I also felt that in some places it left you kind of stranded When it shows how to use the guitar amp, with a real instrument, part of the advice given is You will probably have to buy some kind of third party adaptor I think it would have been a good idea to give some suggestions as well as how to connect everything instead of just suggesting you look online or at a music or computer store For the price it s a decent book and will get you started on the basics However I think a far better book is Make Music with your iPad by Ben Harvell It gives you everything you need to get started and I would recommend that book over this one. My 12 year old son used it for a project at school to quickly learn a little about GarageBand For him it was useful However, most of everything in here you could reasonably figure out yourself or from using the help, or even Internet sites If you want a quick start and prefer a book, I would say this is fine for you. Only a very high level overview of garageband for ipad No help for the newbie at all Expected some step by step examples for creating tracks. Just what I needed, I am a genuine GaragebBand novice and they wrote this for me Newbies will find this book invaluable and regular users will like it as a reference guide to help them remember functions not used often.
