This a very simple, easy to comprehend description of all the core concepts in digital photography David Busch has a great ability to explain complex issues in simple terms without glossing over any of the necessary details These concepts make it much easier to figure out camera settings using first principles. The only thing missing for me was the table of settings for dummies It s great to be able to think things through from first principles, but I was also looking for advice along the lines of In these circumstances, set this button to x, this button to y and click There are a few examples of that level of guidance and if there were this would get 5 stars. If you want to understand what s going on with your dSLR, this is a great easy to grasp intro. If You Re A Serious Photographer, You Know That No Other Camera Offers As Much Sophistication And Versatility As The Digital SLR The Drawback To This Sophistication Comes In The Form Of Tedious And Lengthy User Manuals That Can Make It Difficult To Find The Essential Information You Need To Get Started Quick Snap Guide To Digital SLR Photography Provides You With A Concise Introduction To The Most Important Features Of Your DSLR Camera Each Topic Is Covered In Two Or Four Page Spreads With Plenty Of Illustrations And Images, Making It Easy To Follow Along Eliminating The Frustration Of Timeconsuming User Manuals, This Book Is The Ideal Guide For Any New DSLR Owner Who Wants To Start Taking Great Pictures Right Away I think I ve purchased all of David Busch s Quick Snap guides and several of his other books and I think he is far and away the most readable and thorough author on digital photography I have come across so far A Quick Snap guide sounds as if it might be over simplistic, but that is certainly not the case he explains each topic thoroughly, so that you learn both how and why to do things He uses simple terminology, but not in a patronizing way, and his enthusiasm is so infectious that he makes an excellent teacher This is the first in the series and he suggests it may be suitable for somebody who wants to borrow a expert user s camera it would certainly do that job, but I have found it very useful myself because I own the camera but needed a good explanation of the basics to build on and this is it The book is ruined by incompetent design It is an oddball inconvenient horizontal format A far serious fault is that it is printed in eyeball busting very small type And worst of all, that tiny type is in very hard to read sans serif As a result, it is frustrating and fatiguing to read this book even if you have excellent vision and glasses For an older person or anyone without perfect vision it is impossible This abomination is surprising since other books by the same author are competently designed The author, David Busch, should realize his publisher s designers are incompetent and try to get them to do a decent job on other books.Note that the book was published in 2006 and written earlier It is at least 8 years out of date and some information is incorrect, misleading, or ridiculous. I am new to dSLR cameras and was looking for a book that would get me beyond the point and shoot world I had been living in for so many years Basically, this book just tells you what buttons to look for on the camera and sort of what they do but this is something my Pentax User s Manual already does in better detail This book does try to present some principles of basic photography, but ends up doing so in broad vagaries, so do not buy it if you are looking for a clear discussion of aperture vs ISO vs shutter speed, etc Buy it only if you want some direction on what buttons you should be looking for on your dSLR and nothing I checked out The New Manual of Photography by John Hedgecoe from the local library and found it to be infinitely helpful and informative I might buy that one instead, but I ve already sunk 20 once, so this time I am going to be careful. I am currently reading this book and have found out things that I might not ever have found out about digital photography I consider this to be the best book for beginners to DSLR cameras A lot of useful information to get here. My opinion is that this is a great resource as guide to a totally uninformed and unsure owner of a camera that I have wanted to own for a long time and have no idea how to operate it Thanks a bunch. Good seller No problems. My sister was very happy, so I guess it s good Arrived in time and it was brand new Also inside I found the winning Lotto numbers Ok I didn t but I had a few words to go for this review to be published and I thought that would make a good story.
