Jock Steins Celtic obliterated the Cattenacio deployed by Herras Inter in 67 We did it by playing football pure, beautiful, inventive football There was not a negative thought in our heads This game was lauded as a victory for football.Neither Celtic or Jock Stein are even mentioned in the Index.Blackburn Rovers are.

A really fascinating book I read the whole thing in a day Brilliant for anyone who wants to understand how tactics have evolved over time I particularly liked the focus on key matches that illustrate all of the different systems this made it much concrete, easy to follow and interesting than many other football tactics books

My problem with most soccer books I ve read is I can t follow them I get caught up in the names and trying to follow the description I think Total Football nails it with all the charts used.My other problem with Soccer books is that they re either too simple, covering only the basic rules, or else too technical, assuming I know than I do I found Total Footballl a nice middle ground, explaining things like a false nine.It has a good amount of history and I like the focus on individual matches It covers a good amount of historical matches as well as contemporary You ll also find yourself learning a lot about players and teams in addition to tactics.Highly recommend, especially to people who may struggle with prose only descriptions of Soccer tactics.

I have to say, I am TOTALLY nerding out on this bookas a soccer coach, referee and fan, this book is AWESOME I love the presentation of the soccer tactic through actual matches, as well as the diagrams to describe what s going on This book is NOT for the faint of heart and if you re new to soccer, you ll probably get overwhelmed quicklybut if you have a base knowledge of soccer and soccer tactics and want to dig deeper, this is the PERFECT book.
