The tale of Tam Linn is a traditional Scottish fairy tale As mentioned at the start of this book, the first earliest suggestion of the tale dates back to 1549, but the tale could pre date even this Lari Don s retelling of this old tale is aimed at young readers The illustrations provided by Philip Longson adds to the charm of this seemingly simple tale. The tale tells of a young girl, Janet, who has been warned not to enter the woods near to where she lives Growing up, she was told a story of a boy who is kidnapped by a fairy Queen, and taken away into the woods But, Janet doesn t believe in fairy tales, and she doesn t like being told what to do.Although Don s retelling is extremely short, the beauty of the tale truly does shine through Longson s illustrations are just exquisite and, because the book is of a larger size, you are better able to appreciate them For young readers, there is just enough danger within the tale without being too scary, and although there is a hint of romance, this is very subtly done too Rather, the moral of the tale here is that, despite time passing, loved ones will still be missed and for magic to happen, you need to hold on.A lovely book, I would thoroughly recommend it I just wish it was longer
