As a child, the Famous Five series of books failed to impress me Maybe because they were set in an England that I did not recognise Or because the language used was so unfamiliar to me The racist undertones and Lesbian insinuations went over my head All these factors make the original stories ripe for parody And this book knowingly pokes fun at the four children and their dog I had an enjoyable afternoon reading this silly book If you enjoy the series of Lady Bird Books for Adults, then you will find humour in this novel Novel. This is desperately unfunny Unlike the Ladybird parody books that work really well mixing the photos with captions, this is just laboured by someone who doesn t have a knack for comedy but thinks they re clever Like Michael Gove.Only kept it for the cover, otherwise would have sent it back. had good hopes for this but apart from few funny lines in first few pages, never got round to reading the rest as myself and also teenager at home have found it really dull sadly, disappointed as looked entertaining and good reviews but not many funny lines at all after so many pages yawn A short book, just as well, as had it been longer it would be repetitive and boring.Whilst an attempt of poking fun, in my view, it didn t really succeed, rather it was farcical and silly.Had it cost I d be rather annoyed So, probably a good try but for me pathetic Enid Blyton S Books Are Beloved The World Over And The Famous Five Have Been The Perennial Favourite Of Her Fans Now, In This New Series Of Enid Blyton For Grown Ups, Can George, Dick, Anne, Julian And Timmy Survive The Ultimate Test Of Their Friendship Brexit It Is The Night Of The Referendum And The Five Have Retired To Kirrin Island To Enjoy The Fresh Air And Sunshine, Fed Up With The Rancour Of Public Debate George Is Firmly A Remainer, Whilst Julian, Who Is In The Brexit Camp, Is Tolerated On The Grounds That Anne Cannot Bear To Go Camping Without Him Timmy, Largely Apolitical But Not Keen On Cats Or Rabbits, Joins Them Too The Night Is Tempestuous In Ways Than One George Has Managed To Rig Up A Satellite Link With The Mainland So They Can Keep Abreast Of The News, And They Sit Huddled Around The Fire, Amidst Some Tension, As George S Initial Hope That The Remainers Will Triumph Proves Premature Meanwhile, A Violent Storm Whips Up The Damage Is Apparent As The New Day Dawns And George Declares A New Meaning For Brexit Kirrin Island Is Exiting Britainthat Is, Until The Red Tape Becomes Too Much Of A Challenge And Their Happy Life Together Is Under ThreatPerfect For Anyone Sick Of Hearing That Brexit Means Brexit , Or For That Relative You Re Still Not Talking To Because Of How They Voted Tongue in cheek humerous book based on the Enid Blyton Five books that I read as a child Bought this and Escape from Brexit island as a joke present for a family member Quite easy to read Both books may become obsolete if Brexit doesn t happen As far as goes, this was excellent perfect condition of course and very good price The story, however, was very poor unclear and incoherent, so there were many inconsistencies in the telling and the characterisations weren t true to the original characters Enid Blyton would not have been impressed Got this for hubby who uses it as his toilet reading, not read it myself yet but by the laughter coming from the loo, I guess it is funny.
