A Bunch of Sweet Peas Rather a thin book for the money, but the illustrations were lovely Ideal for a maiden aunt 85 year old friend loved it. In , In The Scottish Border Village Of Sprouston, The Young Parish Minister Wrote To The Daily Mail For Entry Forms For Its Sweet Pea Competition The Top Prize Was A Staggering And Organisers Predicted That As Many As , Would Enter He Could Not Foretell That The Paper S Estimate Of The Number Of Competitors Would Be Than Doubled, Or That A Fortnight Before The Deadline A Nation Wide Drought Would Threaten The Very Existence Of The Sweet Peas He Was So Painstakingly Cultivating This Touching And Beautifully Illustrated Tale Is Based On A True Story It was lovely to read a story about a place you know Sweet Peas are a beautiful flowers which have a smell which reminds you of warm summers and relaxing. A delightful short story of a lovely Scottish couple and their quest to grow winning sweet peas A lovely edition, card cover and beautiful illustrations I have bought it for many friends as a gift Would recommend. I listened to the audio book version read by Judy dench whose lovely voice perfectly suited this gentle tale based on a true story about a gardening competition in 1911 Brief but utterly charming This is a sweet little book, quick to read and very pretty Would make a lovely gift with a packet of seeds or a bunch of sweet peas Just an absolutely charming, sweet innocent story I am no maiden aunt but I can still appreciate this, and did so in my twenties when I read my granny s copy I have since bought it for two friends who both loved it as much as I did. This is a feel good story along the lines of Johnathan Livingstone Seagull with the message that you should give it a go, whatever it is I ve bought it as a present for someone who loves gardening for myself I would have got it fo the library, as it s not one I would read again and again.
