Usually these books are excellent, a boy finding himself in trouble trying to cross some water at low tide becomes stranded on a sandbank, the water covers his head and he is drowning, he wakes up in a large cavern, his clothes are drying over the fire and he meets a man claiming to be Arthur Pendragon, High King of BritonThis is where the book stops and it is as if some has just copied the book of King Arthur and his exploits as the man tells his life story, I am not sure why the author would do this as his books are usually excellent

This is a great book, and the first person narrative it is told in really maded me feel like I knew Arthur, liked he was my friend I would highly recommend this book because it is very interesting to read about the knights of the round table, and it is not at all tiresome to read there is not one dull part to this book Morpurgo tells King Arthurs tale with great passion, I am definitly reading the next book The Sleeping Sword and am going to try some of his books.Read this book, I loved it and it is impossible not to

If your child has an interest in King Arthur this is a good place to start The stories are told in a gripping way which as an adult I enjoyed and so did my son 9 I read it with him as I don t think he would have taken on such a chunky novel without a bit of help but he really enjoyed the narrative and the famous characters It is imaginatively written and contained the essence of the magic of Arthurian legends.

An excellent retelling of all the King Arthur stories, as told by an elderly Arthur to a young boy The hardback is printed on nice heavy paper and would make an excellent gift.
