An excellent read I am not into fantasy dungeons and dragons type books but this reads like a regular crime novel where the bad guys just happen to be alternate life forms The insights into Durban and South Africa are sharp and the writing style is one that you feel immediately at ease with.

Bang on, fast paced and gritty, just like it should be Fantastic characterisations and a parade of supernatural foes from fae to vampire gangsters Loved both the novels, so nice to see great writing coupled with a mad creativity.

I understand the Butcher and Aaronovitch references and the SA location has originality but is not to that standard I found the supporting cast interest than Gideon at times Armitage is worthy of her own series

This book got off to a cracking start It is a detective story, starting with a murder, set in Durban the dirtiest, strangest, most violent place I ve ever lived It s the soul of South Africa Nevertheless it is evidently that Poison City is one that the author loves he portrays the soul of the city quite literally here.We are firmly in detective noir territory
